Pep Guardiola has continued his praises of Arsenal, acknowledging that the Londoners are the best club in Europe this campaign as Manchester City angle for a potential English Premier League decider against Arsenal.

Guardiola will face the leaders Arsenal this Sunday, April 19, 2026, in a match that could shape the now tight Premier League title race.

Speaking after Sunday’s 3-0 win over Chelsea that sent his charge within six points of the top spot with a game in hand on the league leaders, the Spaniard was quick to shift focus to the impending battle at Etihad Stadium.

Etihad battle

“Arsenal have been the best team in this country and in Europe so far. I would like to tell the fans to show a lot of respect for Arsenal. They are an extraordinary team. Come join us from minute one because the players will do the maximum,” he stated as quoted by the Premier League.

His remarks come after he also made similar praise to Arsenal just before his team upended his student-turned-nemesis, Mikel Arteta, on March 22, 2026, during the 2-0 defeat in the Carabao Cup finals.

“We will challenge the best team in England so far, the best team in Europe, because look at their results in the group phase; they were first and have lost three or four games all season. We will challenge them, and we have to see how we are competing against them,” he stated.

Quadruple dreams snapped

The loss appeared to be a starting point of Arsenal’s struggles, whose quadruple (four-trophy haul) dreams were shattered.

A fortnight later, Gunners saw their FA Cup push come to an abrupt end after defeat to Southampton, and the team is currently reeling in a spate of four losses in as many games that left their title push in jeopardy.

The Gunners, who are seeking a first major trophy since 2022, head to the clash intent on arresting the run against an in-form Man City team on a nine-game unbeaten streak.
