Crowds flood CBD as Eric Omondi leads celebration of Arsenal’s loss to PSG

It was more pain for Arsenal fans just days after their heartbreaking penalty shootout defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League final. The Gunners were hit with fresh agony this time on the streets of Nairobi.

On Monday, June 1, 2026, comedian and Manchester United supporter Eric Omondi led a massive public celebration at the National Archives in Nairobi’s CBD.

What started as light banter quickly escalated into a full street gathering as rival fans turned up in large numbers to mock Arsenal’s European heartbreak.

Crowds flood the CBD

By afternoon, the usually busy Archives had transformed into a loud sea of colour and energy. Eric arrived with a branded “Champions of Europe” truck, a raised stage, powerful speakers, and nonstop chants aimed at Arsenal supporters.

Fans of Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City, and other clubs joined in, turning the event into one of the biggest football banter gatherings seen in Nairobi in recent times.

Traffic in the CBD slowed as the crowd grew. People danced, sang, and openly mocked Arsenal’s final loss, which saw PSG retain the Champions League title.

It was a moment many described as a “dose of your own medicine.”

A rival return moment

This celebration came just days after Arsenal fans themselves had flooded the same spot, the National Archives, to celebrate their 2025/26 English Premier League title, their first league crown in 22 years. Thousands of Gunners supporters turned the CBD into a sea of red and white, parading a replica trophy, chanting, and partying for days.

Eric Omondi had openly criticised the celebrations at the time.

The move added another layer to the already heated football rivalry in the city, turning the CBD into a stage where celebration and banter collided in equal measure.

While the atmosphere was lively for rival fans, not everyone approved of the event. Comedian 2Mbili and others questioned the timing, suggesting such public energy could be redirected toward more serious national issues rather than football mockery.
