Comedian Timothy Kimani, widely known as Njugush, has joined Kenyans in remembering the late media personality and reggae MC Mary Njambi Koikai, popularly known as Jahmby Koikai, on her second death anniversary.

Taking to social media on Thursday, June 4, 2026, Njugush shared a heartfelt message honouring her memory.

“Fayah Mummah JAHMBY KOIKAI, continue resting in Peace,” Njugush wrote.

Njambi’s death

Jahmby Koikai took her last breath on June 4, 2024, at the age of 38 while receiving treatment at a Nairobi hospital after a long battle with endometriosis.

Jahmby was laid to rest on June 14, 2024, at Langata Cemetery, Nairobi County.

Endometriosis battle

Before her death, the late legendary reggae fanatic had been documenting and educating others about the challenges faced by patients suffering from the condition. Her openness made her one of the most influential voices in Kenya’s health advocacy space.

According to Jahmby her health struggles began at just 13 years old, when she started experiencing severe menstrual pain. Unfortunately, it took 17 years before she received a proper diagnosis.

During those years, her symptoms were often misdiagnosed or dismissed, leading to delayed treatment. By the time doctors identified her condition as stage IV thoracic endometriosis, a rare and aggressive form of the disease, her health had deteriorated significantly.

The illness had spread to her lungs, diaphragm, appendix, and spine, causing multiple lung collapses and severe complications.

In 2018, Jahmby travelled to Atlanta, Georgia, to receive specialised care at the Centre for Endometriosis Care. There, she underwent 21 surgeries to remove endometrial tissue from various affected organs.

In her final days, Jahmby appealed to Kenyan leaders, including President William Ruto, urging them to invest in healthcare facilities specialising in endometriosis treatment.

She encouraged them to learn from centres abroad that have successfully treated women with the condition, hoping Kenya could one day offer similar services to save lives.

“This is a sincere call of help to a few Kenyan leaders but all help to a few Kenyan leaders but allow me to address this to President William Ruto first as he makes his state visit to the US. Mr. President, one of the thematic areas in your visit is investment in health,” she stated.

“Atlanta, Georgia is a dream city for every young girl and woman who has ever battled this horrific disease called Endometriosis. Therein lies a centre dedicated to restoring the lives of young girls and women who are crippled by this disease. The @centerforendocare.”
