Renowned Kenyan TikToker Milcah Nyatuga, popularly known as Milly wa Doc, died on the morning of Tuesday, June 3, 2025, and ever since that moment, the Kenyan TikTok community, has been gripped in a state of mourning, unable to speak about anything else but the colourful and spirited life she led.

As online users combed through her past posts attempting to connect digital dots and draw conclusions about what may have led to her untimely passing, her family has since come forward to reveal the actual cause of her death, firmly stating that it was not depression, as had been widely speculated, but rather kidney failure.

Her aunt, who spoke following a visit to their home by several TikTokers, including Peter Kioi, offered a raw and heartfelt account of Milly’s final days, narrating the step-by-step journey of how a simple medical issue spiralled into a tragic end that no one saw coming.

“I am the aunt of Milly, and I would like to explain a little about what happened. Milly Milly had been unwell — she had a cyst in her stomach, and that cyst is what led her to the hospital, where she underwent surgery,” the aunt said.

She went on to reveal that following the operation, Milly experienced excessive blood loss, prompting doctors to recommend that the entire cyst be removed to ease the bleeding, which by then had become alarming.

According to her, Milly underwent the second procedure, and the cyst was indeed removed, but instead of recovery, her condition deteriorated — the bleeding worsened, and doctors had no choice but to readmit her for an urgent blood transfusion.

“And from there she started bleeding heavily, and when she was taken to the hospital, they realised the situation was serious, so they opted for removal of the cyst. Once it was removed, the bleeding intensified, and that is when she started receiving blood transfusions,” she explained.

The aunt clarified that it was this extreme blood loss that led Milly to be admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU), dismissing the other theories circulating online, and underscoring that it was a pure medical emergency and not what people were assuming.

She shared that Milly spent three days in the ICU and appeared to be making good progress, but the situation took a devastating turn soon after she was discharged to go home.

“She had been taken to the ICU because of the bleeding from the theatre. She stayed in the ICU for three days, and the doctors said she was doing fine,” she added.

However, during her discharge, it was discovered that both her kidneys had failed during the treatment process, and the doctors, desperate to preserve her life, decided to place her on life-saving medication as they prepared for a possible emergency dialysis.

“So after she was discharged, they discovered both her kidneys had failed. That is when she was rushed back to the ICU. The doctors said they would try using medication first to see if it would help the kidneys respond,” the aunt said.

Unfortunately, the medication did not work, and the critical window doctors had given her to show signs of improvement passed.

They made the decision to begin dialysis, but the painful journey that had stretched her strength to its edge finally overcame her on her very first session.

“They had given her until yesterday evening to show improvement before they would begin dialysis. When that moment came and she had not improved, they took her in for dialysis — but after the procedure, her condition worsened, and we were informed that she had passed away,” she recounted.

Her family, visibly shaken, described Milly as a brave soul who fought through excruciating medical trials with a spirit full of fire, grace, and quiet resistance — a woman who did not go down without a battle.

Who was Milly wa Doc?

Beyond TikTok, Milly was a businesswoman whose digital presence had grown into a formidable force.

At the time of her death, she had amassed an impressive 399,000 followers and over 4.2 million likes on the popular video-sharing platform.

Much like the late TikTok personality Brian Chira, who passed away in March 2024, Milly had carved out a special place in the hearts of many, not just because of her relatable and engaging content, but also because of her routine live sessions and authentic personality.

She was a proud mother of two — a son and a daughter — whom she often spoke about in her content, occasionally introducing them to her followers, and expressing how she had raised them to be resilient enough to even withstand the thought of her passing.

Sadly, her death came barely a month after she tied the knot with her new husband, Odeke, in a private civil ceremony officiated under the Attorney General’s office, further intensifying the wave of grief that has since engulfed her loved ones.
