FKF vows action after chaos rocks Gor Mahia-Tusker Super Cup match

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has vowed to take action against individuals found responsible for violence and disorder that erupted after the FKF Super Cup clash between Gor Mahia and Tusker FC at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
The federation condemned the scenes that followed Tusker’s 3-1 victory over Gor Mahia, saying the incidents put players, journalists, officials, fans and security personnel at risk.
In a statement issued on Sunday, August 23, 2026, FKF said it would work with relevant authorities and football stakeholders to establish what happened during the disturbances.
Violence mars match
The chaos erupted after the final whistle as Tusker celebrated their victory over Gor Mahia.
Security officers used tear gas and other crowd-control measures as disorder broke out at the stadium, with the incidents disrupting the post-match proceedings.
FKF strongly condemned the violence, destruction of property and intimidation witnessed after the match.

“There is no place for violence, destruction of property, intimidation or any conduct that puts the safety of players, journalists, officials, fans, security personnel and the public at risk,” the federation said.
The federation also raised concerns over the use of tear gas during the incidents.
“While security agencies have a responsibility to maintain order, such measures must be exercised with restraint, professionalism and in accordance with the law,” FKF said.
Probe into chaos
FKF said it would review available match footage and reports from match officials and other stakeholders as part of efforts to establish what happened.
The federation said those found responsible for violence or misconduct would face appropriate action.
“Any individual found to have breached FKF regulations or the law, whether a fan, club official, steward or security officer, should face appropriate action in accordance with due process,” it said.

FKF said its investigation would not be limited to supporters, noting that club officials, stewards and security officers could also face action if found to have breached regulations or the law.
The federation said it would work with relevant authorities as it pursues accountability over the incidents.
Tusker lift trophy
The disorder overshadowed Tusker’s impressive performance in the Super Cup, where the Brewers defeated Gor Mahia 3-1 to lift the trophy.
Tusker’s victory gave the club an early boost ahead of the new FKF Premier League season, while Gor Mahia were left to reflect on a disappointing result.

FKF called on fans, security agencies and football stakeholders to uphold discipline during matches.
The federation said it remained committed to ensuring football matches provide safe and welcoming environments for players, officials, journalists and supporters.
“FKF remains committed to protecting the integrity of the game and ensuring that no one is above accountability,” the federation said.
