Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya who has ended his trip in the USA, has revealed that being away from friends who drink excessively has improved his appearance.

On Wednesday, December 3, 2025, he said the change in environment and lifestyle has made his face look better, and he now plans to limit alcohol consumption when he returns to Kenya.

Salasya said, “Huku America sikuwa na marafiki walevi ona vyenye uso yangu imekuwa mrembo vyenye narudi kenya marafiki wa pombe msonge kando sasa. I will only take wine and soft drinks if it’s a must; I must have something with you guys.” He explained that living in the USA exposed him to a culture where people are more mindful about drinking, and this has influenced his own habits.

The MP has been comparing life in Kenya and the USA, especially when it comes to social habits and substance use. His reflections come shortly after he called for the controlled legalisation of marijuana in Kenya, stressing the need for proper policies to protect young people.

Salasya on legalisation and responsible use

On Sunday, November 30, 2025, Salasya pointed out differences between the two countries, pointing out that the United States has dispensaries offering different types of marijuana for specific purposes, while Kenya currently lacks such regulation.

He said, “Huku club si mob hadi Vegas ndio nitawapeleka kesho muone; hapa people are very busy with cheap alcohol but have no time to drink. The only thing available in dispensaries is weed, but it is controlled. Kuna aina ya usingizi inaitwa indica. Kuna ya kutoa stress inaitwa sativa. Kuna ya happiness.”

He added that any move to legalise marijuana in Kenya should be done carefully and only when the country can manage the different types and regulate their use for specific purposes.

Salasya’s observations from his time in the USA show a clear contrast between lifestyles abroad and in Kenya. He believes that being away from a culture of excessive drinking has helped him improve his health and appearance, and he plans to carry some of these habits back home.
