Amber Ray warns Kenyans against attacking foreigners seeking a living

Amber Ray has urged Kenyans to show empathy and humanity to foreigners seeking a living in the country instead of attacking and destroying their property.
Her plea comes amid the ongoing issue surrounding foreign traders and concerns over how foreigners trying to earn an honest living are being treated.
In her Instagram Story on Monday, September 7, 2026, Amber said people can be angry, frustrated or disagree with someone’s presence, business or circumstances without forgetting their humanity. She explained that disagreements should not make people overlook the sacrifices and responsibilities that may be behind someone’s attempt to make a living.
She said behind every person’s stock is money they have worked for and sacrifices that others may know nothing about. Amber explained that such income can also support responsibilities at home and possibly a family depending on it.
“Behind every piece of stock scattered on that ground is money someone worked for, sacrifices we know nothing about, responsibilities waiting at home, and possibly a family depending on that income,” Amber Ray said.
Amber Ray calls for empathy
Amber said she was concerned about how easily people can forget another person’s humanity when they see them as different. She explained that people should remember that nationality does not change the need for dignity and empathy.
“What worries me most is how easily we sometimes forget someone’s humanity when we see them as ‘the other.’ Today it is a Burundian hawker. Tomorrow it could be a Kenyan trying to make a living in somebody else’s country,” Amber Ray said.
She said Kenyans living and working abroad should also be considered when discussing the treatment of foreigners in Kenya. Amber explained that people should extend the same kindness, dignity and protection to foreigners that they would want for Kenyans outside the country.
“We cannot demand kindness, dignity and protection for Kenyans abroad while refusing to extend the same humanity to foreigners trying to earn an honest living among us,” Amber Ray said.
Amber also said there are proper ways to address disagreements involving laws, grievances and business disputes. She explained that humiliation, destruction and mob justice should never be used as a way of dealing with such issues.

She concluded by calling on people to look beyond nationality, tribe, class or status and remember their shared humanity. Amber said empathy can begin with asking yourself how you would feel if you were facing the same situation.
