Nikita Kering has opened up about being bullied in school, saying the experience affected her confidence and made her hide her achievements.

The singer said on Monday, September 7, 2026, while on a podcast that she was bullied not only by other people but also by teachers who did not like what she was doing.

Nikita explained that at the time, she did not understand why she was being treated that way. She said she genuinely believed there was something wrong with her because of the way people responded to her confidence and the things she enjoyed doing.

“I was really bullied in school. I was bullied so much, even by the teachers. They really didn’t like what I was doing, and now is when I have come to realise, waah, kumbe it was jealousy?” Nikita Kering said.

How bullying affected her confidence

Nikita said she was confident while in school and did not hesitate to take part in activities. She explained that she was often the first to volunteer when there were artistic projects and was always willing to sing.

“Because I was so shamelessly confident, and I think that is something that either I would intimidate people, or they could think huyu ako na kiherehere mingi,” Nikita Kering said.

She said the bullying made her hide much of what she was doing. Nikita explained that people did not like her confidence, which made her start holding back from showing what she could do.

“So I was really bullied for what I was doing. People didn’t like my confidence,” Nikita Kering said.

The singer said the experience continued to affect how she viewed herself even after leaving school. She explained that she did not want to show her achievements and instead chose to keep them hidden because of what she had gone through.

“But that bullying made me hide what I was doing a lot. And after high school I never wanted to… school really killed my confidence,” Nikita Kering said.

Nikita said she eventually had to work on herself and start again after the experience. She explained that the bullying had changed how she approached her achievements and the things she was capable of doing.

“I would hide my achievements. I had to start again,” Nikita Kering said.
