Dr Ofweneke says women can look cheap because of the way they laugh

Media personality Dr Ofweneke has said that the way a woman laughs can make her look “cheap”, sharing his views on how women should carry themselves when laughing around other people.
Ofweneke said the comment might come as a surprise to some women because they may not have expected laughter to be mentioned. He explained that he was referring to women who laugh loudly or appear to laugh with everyone around them.
“Second thing that makes women look cheap is the way that you laugh. Hiyo najua imewapata imewapata imewa shock. Hamkua mna expect hiyo,” Dr Ofweneke said on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
The media personality went on to explain what he meant by the statement. He said some women may laugh in a manner that he believes can affect how men view them, especially when they laugh with everyone.
“It is the way that you laugh. Kuna mtu anaweza sema Oh Ofweneke hiyo ni kitu ya ujinga, wewe ngoja …men don’t like mwanamke ambaye anacheka ovyo ovyo na mwenye anacheka na kila mtu,” Dr Ofweneke said.
Ofweneke said his comments were specifically about the manner in which some women laugh rather than laughter itself. He gave an example of a woman laughing in a way that involves raising one leg while laughing, saying he did not believe such behaviour would earn respect from a man.

“Ukitaka uende uruke ndani ya samaki. Jinsi unavyocheka, huwezi kuwa unacheka mpaka unainua mguu moja juu,” Dr Ofweneke said.
He continued by linking the manner of laughing to how a woman could be perceived by a man. Ofweneke said he believed some forms of laughter could affect the respect a woman receives from a man.
“Hakuna mwanaume ataheshimu,” Dr Ofweneke said.
Ofweneke acknowledged that women may have their own views about how they laugh and whether they should change their behaviour. He appeared to anticipate disagreement from women who may feel that they should be free to laugh in whatever way feels natural to them.
“Mimi nimewaambia, acha kuniambia nitacheka vile nitacheka,” Dr Ofweneke said.
Ofweneke maintained that his point was about how a woman laughs and how often she does so around different people.
