MCA Tricky speaks on society’s different reactions to men and women who fail

Former radio presenter and stand-up comedian Francis Munyao, popularly known as MCA Tricky, has spoken about how society reacts differently when men and women fail, saying men are often expected to succeed while women are more likely to receive support when they struggle.
The comedian explained that society has shaped the way people view men, creating an expectation that a man should always have things under control. He said this is different from how people respond when a woman fails or faces difficulties.
“That is how society has shaped a man. Like we do not expect a man to fail. But when women fail, it is understandable,” MCA Tricky said on Saturday, September 26, 2026, during an interview.
He explained that people are often quick to support women when they fail, saying they are more likely to receive help and encouragement from those around them. He said the same response is not always extended to men in similar situations.
“In fact, when women fail, we all rush to help and uplift them. Because this is a woman and they can fail, but when a man fails, we question instead of going for the rescue,” MCA Tricky said.
Expectations placed on men
MCA Tricky said men are often questioned when they fail instead of being offered immediate support. He pointed to the common expectation that a man should always be prepared and able to handle challenges on his own.
He said this expectation is reflected in the way people speak to men when they experience failure. According to MCA Tricky, men are often asked why they did not prepare themselves instead of being helped through the situation.
“Like how? Kwani hukujipanga kama mwanaume?” MCA Tricky said.
He further explained that the phrase “jipange kama mwanaume” is commonly used when talking about how men are expected to conduct themselves. He said the same expectation is now so common that even women use the phrase when speaking about how men should handle life.
“Infact kuna hiyo phrase, kuna hiyo phrase ya lazima ujipange kama mwanaume. Kuna mtu amesema jipange kama mwanamke?” MCA Tricky said.
The comedian said the expectation is not limited to how other people view men, noting that women also use the same language. He explained that this shows how deeply the idea that men should always be prepared has been accepted in society.
“Hata wanawake wenyewe wanasema siku hizi lazima ujipange kama mwanaume. So there is that perception that a man should never fail,” MCA Tricky said.
His comments highlighted the different expectations placed on men and women when they experience failure. He said men are expected to be prepared, while women are more likely to receive understanding and support when they fall short.
