Media personality Mwalimu Rachel has called out Subaru owners over loud engine revving, saying the noise is unnecessary and disruptive, particularly in residential areas.

In an Instagram post on Sunday, August 23, 2026, Mwalimu Rachel shared her frustration after encountering a Subaru driver while grocery shopping in an area away from where she lives.

She said the driver parked on the side of the road where pedestrians walk before repeatedly revving the vehicle and producing loud exhaust sounds.

According to Rachel, the noise continued for about five minutes and was happening in a residential neighbourhood where people were going about their daily activities.

Residential area disruption

Rachel questioned why some Subaru owners feel the need to make their vehicles excessively loud in public spaces.

“There’s a time and place for those theatrics,” she said.

She suggested that some motorists may be trying to attract attention from fellow car enthusiasts or demonstrate their vehicles at car meets.

“Why do you have to pasua your turbo engine for us to know that you’re there?” she questioned.

Rachel said she struggled to understand why the loud engine sounds had to be made in a residential setting where other people, including traders and pedestrians, could hear them.

She also questioned the practice of producing loud sounds near schools and other places where people may be particularly sensitive to excessive noise.

The radio host described the behaviour as immature and urged Subaru owners to consider the impact their vehicles have on other people.

“You guys have never grown up. You’ve never changed your ways,” she said.

Rachel also referenced a recent discussion by her brother about taking care of one’s hearing, arguing that excessively loud vehicle sounds could be harmful to people’s ears.

“That sound inaweza pasua mpaka eardrums,” she said.

She described the behaviour as “immaturity of the highest level” and questioned why drivers would deliberately rev their engines and produce flames from their exhausts simply to attract attention.

‘Please grow up’

Rachel later addressed Subaru owners directly, urging those who engage in the behaviour to reconsider where and when they make such noises.

“Please, if you know you are that Subaru person, please grow up,” she said.

In a follow-up Instagram post, Rachel also asked car enthusiasts to explain why the sound is necessary, saying she had never understood its appeal.

“Why is this sound necessary in these cars?” she asked, while acknowledging that some people might dismiss her criticism because of her age.
