He said that there will never come a time when he and the former Head of State will clash.

Gachagua said the narrative being circulated by some quarters is meant to create unnecessary divisions in Mt Kenya politics ahead of the 2027 elections.

He clarified that Uhuru Kenyatta is a retired president with no political competition between them.

Gachagua Clarifies His Relationship with Uhuru

“There’s a narrative being pushed that I’m in conflict with former President Uhuru Kenyatta, that’s far from the truth.

Uhuru is a retired president and cannot run again. Rigathi Gachagua wants to be president, so how can there be conflict? We’re not opponents,” Gachagua said.

The former Deputy President added that he holds deep respect for Uhuru’s leadership and legacy, insisting that their paths are different but complementary.

He noted that the former president deserves peace in retirement and urged leaders to stop dragging his name into political controversies.

Gachagua reiterated that his focus is on uniting the Mt Kenya region and strengthening his new party, the Democracy for Citizens Party, ahead of the next general election.

He said his goal is to build partnerships that reflect the region’s shared values and aspirations.

Gachagua speaks on Matiang’i’s ambitions

In the same interview, Gachagua spoke positively about former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, saying he is a good man with a strong desire to serve the country.

“Fred Matiang’i is a good man. When he returned from the US, I held several private meetings with him where he expressed his desire to join us and his interest in serving as president if we supported him, and we welcomed him,” he revealed.

Gachagua’s remarks have sparked fresh discussions within the political landscape, with analysts viewing them as an attempt to project unity while realigning forces ahead of the 2027 race.
