‘Siku ya huzuni’: Pastor Kanyari breaks down over death of woman he knew for 20 years

Salvation Healing Ministry founder Pastor Victor Kanyari has mourned the death of a woman he had known for 20 years, recalling their relationship from a time when he was still struggling financially and had neither wealth nor a car.

Speaking in a video shared on Facebook on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, Kanyari identified the deceased as Caroline Mwihaki and revealed that she died of cancer, leaving behind children whom he has now pledged to support.

“It is a sad day. I am very sorry because a woman I had known closely for 20 years died. She is called Caroline Mwihaki,” Kanyari said.

The preacher said he had known Caroline long before he became wealthy, recalling a period when he could not afford some of the things he can comfortably provide today.

“I knew her way back when I was not rich yet. That time I did not have a car, and I was poor,” he said.

Kanyari explained that he was unable to travel to Ndeiya, where Caroline was due to be buried, but said his absence from the burial did not prevent him from ensuring that the family received the support it needed.

“And I was not able to travel to Ndeiya, where the burial is. But I have made sure everything has been taken care of,” he said.

The pastor disclosed that he had personally taken responsibility for several expenses linked to Caroline’s final journey, including her mortuary bill and transport for both mourners and her body.

“I have paid for her mortuary bill. I have paid for cars that will transport people and the body. I mean, I have covered all that,” Kanyari said.

The financial burden of organising the burial was significant, with the preacher acknowledging that the funeral had cost him a considerable amount of money.

“That burial has cost me a lot of money,” he said.

Despite the expense, Kanyari said the amount of money involved was secondary to the circumstances surrounding Caroline’s death, particularly the fact that she died unexpectedly.

“But money is not key. The issue is the burial and her untimely demise,” he said.

His remarks reflected the depth of his grief as he remembered a woman who had been part of his life for two decades, including during the years before he attained the level of financial success associated with him today.

Kanyari further pledged to remain involved in the welfare of Caroline’s family even after the burial, promising continued support for those she left behind.

“And therefore I will keep supporting her family, and I will also take up her kids,” he said.
