By Nyaboga Kiage,

Robert Kyagulayi alias Bobi Wine, who is a Ugandan presidential candidate, has been forced to relocate his family to the US ahead of his country’s General Election scheduled for next week.

This comes amid an ongoing crackdown targeting opposition leaders and supporters by security agencies.

Three of Bobi Wine’s four children on Wednesday night boarded a plane to the US in the company of a senior family member.

The four will stay with the pop singer’s sister-in-law until the election is concluded.

“My children have been trailed and followed everywhere,” Wine told a local TV station.

According to him, he was forced to transfer the kids from their schools and instead put them at home.

He claimed that there were plans to kidnap his children and he was advised to take them out of the country.

Uganda will be heading to the polls on January 14.

Wine hopes to unseat President Yoweri Museveni who has ruled the East African country for 35 years.

Museveni is now running for the sixth term after Uganda’s parliament changed the Constitution to remove age limits.

Opposition leaders in Uganda have been arrested and their supporters shot dead in the recent past.
