Raila Odinga was very busy on Sunday, June 6, 2022, hitting the ground running ahead of his manifesto launch at the Nyayo National Stadium.
The Azimio La Umoja One Kenya presidential candidate started his day by attending a church service at All Saints Cathedral together with his running mate Martha Karua and several politicians allied to their outfit.
The former premier was in church for the Sunday service and also to receive blessings ahead of his date with IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati.
Raila in Bomas
Raila and his entourage headed to Bomas of Kenya to be cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to vie in the August 9 presidential election.
The ODM leader and his running mate were cleared by Presidential Returning Officer Chebukati who said their nomination papers were in order.
The former Prime Minister became the fifth presidential candidate to be cleared to contest. Others cleared so far include; Deputy President William Ruto, Prof George Wajackoyah of Roots Party, Walter Mong’are of Umoja Summit Party and lawyer David Mwaura Waihiga of the Agano party.
Raila in Langata
After Bomas, Raila Odinga led the Azimio brigade to Undugu grounds in Lang’ata constituency for a rally at noon.
The rally in Lang’ata was symbolic to the ODM leader who served as the MP for the larger Lang’ata constituency (which included both Kibera and Lang’ata constituencies) between 1992 and March 2013 when he vied for president for the first time after the 2010 constitution was implemented.
Raila in Nakuru
From Lang’ata, the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya presidential contender flew to Nakuru where he attended a series of roadside rallies before a mega rally at Mazembe Grounds (Bondeni Ziwani).
The ODM leader was received in Nakuru city by governor Lee Kinyanjui among several leaders from the county.
The former premier hit the ground running after holding a meeting with Kinyanjui and other political leaders in the region.
The Azimio brigade held a mega rally at Mazembe Grounds which was attended by a mammoth crowd.
From Nakuru, the ODM leader returned to Nairobi. He is set to unveil his manifesto at the Nyayo National Stadium in the capital city on Monday, May 6, 2022, at 4 pm.
