Gaucho opens up on Ksh200K monthly pay from Raila Odinga

Calvince Okoth, alias Gaucho, has opened up about receiving Ksh200,000 monthly from the late Raila Odinga, as he addressed questions following his recent appointment to the Mama Lucy Hospital board.

On Saturday, May 2, 2026, he explained that the arrangement started before his appointment and was linked to earlier political events. According to Gaucho, the assurance came after the 2022 elections.

He spoke during an interview where he was asked if he knew about the appointment in advance. Gaucho explained that the conversation about his future had taken place earlier. According to him, the discussions were clear and ongoing.

“First of all, ulipokua appointed ulijua kabisa hii appointment inakuja?” Alex Mwakideu asked during the interview.

Gaucho said Raila Odinga had informed him about possible opportunities ahead of time. He explained that the talks happened about one and a half to two years ago. He added that he was told support would come as he figured out his next step.

“Baba aliniambia hii kitu around one and a half…two years ago,” Gaucho said.

He further explained that the plan involved possible help from other leaders. He said he was told that either President William Ruto or Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja could help find him a position. He added that this came after a difficult period following the elections.

Payment and job promise details

Gaucho, who recently indicated that he reached class six, said he had raised concerns about his responsibilities at home. He explained that he has three children and needed a steady income. He said this is what led to the monthly support he received.

“Niliambia baba niko na watoto watatu, lazima nilipe nyumba na vitu zingine,” Gaucho said.

He then revealed that he was placed under Raila Odinga’s office for support. He explained that he received a monthly payment during that time. He also addressed claims that there was no financial support.

“So nilikua nalipwa na ofisi yake 200,000 every month. Watu walikua wanasema baba hatoi pesa, hiyo ilikua maneno,” Gaucho said.

He added that he was assured of a future role as plans continued. He explained that he was told he would be placed somewhere suitable when the time came. He noted that no specific job had been mentioned at that point.

“So akaniambia huko mbele Sakaja ama President Ruto atakuweka mahali nakuhitaji nakupata,” Gaucho said.

He concluded by saying he trusted the process even without details. He explained that he was open to any position that would come up. He added that he did not know exactly where he would be placed.

“Hakuniambia ni kazi gani but aliniambia mahali popote, mahali nitakua free,” Gaucho said.
