Trevor Ombija joins Ruto’s Tutam movement, urges Kenyans to give President another chance

Journalist Trevor Ombija, who is vying to become the next Member of Parliament for Nyakach Constituency, has joined President William Ruto’s Tutam political faction, declaring his support for the movement as it pushes for the President’s re-election for a second term.
In a post shared on TikTok on Sunday, September 13, 2026, as President Ruto began his development tour of the Nyanza region, Ombija welcomed the Head of State to the area and declared that the people of Nyanza had great affection for him.
The journalist then made his position on Tutam known, publicly aligning himself with the political movement while pledging his support for Ruto.
“President Ruto’s Nyanza tour. President Ruto karibu Nyanza, tunakupenda. TUTAM siku zote. Jeshi ya rais,” a poster shared by Ombija read.
While speaking at an event later, Ombija turned his attention to a major highway in his home area, recalling the challenges residents had faced on the road over the years.
The journalist praised Ruto for turning his attention to the road, which he said had remained unattended for more than six decades before the current administration began construction work.
“For 60 years, no one constructed this highway. It is President Ruto who is doing it now,” Ombija said.
Ombija also recalled a particularly difficult experience on the road, saying he once spent the Christmas holiday sleeping there after heavy traffic brought movement to a standstill.
“I remember sleeping on that road during the Christmas holiday because of heavy traffic,” he said.
The journalist contrasted that experience with the situation now, pointing to the ongoing construction as evidence of the attention the road has received under Ruto’s administration.
“But now it’s under construction,” Ombija added.
Ombija then made a direct appeal to Kenyans to give Ruto another opportunity at the helm when they head to the ballot in 2027, arguing that the President should be allowed to complete two terms in office.
“Let’s give Ruto another term, please,” he said.
Ruto’s Nyanza tour
President Ruto began his development tour of Nyanza on Sunday, September 13, 2026, with the four to five-day visit scheduled to take him across Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay and Migori counties.
The President kicked off the first day of the tour with an interdenominational church service at the Voice of Salvation and Healing Church near Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Kisumu County.
Ruto was accompanied by senior government officials and local leaders during the opening engagements, among them Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi and Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi.
The President’s first day also included a major consultative meeting at Kisumu State Lodge, where about 10,000 regional delegates and local leaders gathered to deliberate on development priorities affecting the region.
The tour has consequently provided Ruto with an opportunity to engage residents and leaders across Nyanza while showcasing projects and government programmes in the region.
