Winnie Odinga reveals plans for Netflix documentary on life with Raila

Winnie Odinga has revealed plans to produce a documentary series about her life with her late father, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, which she hopes could eventually be streamed on Netflix.

Speaking during an interview posted on Saturday, August 29, 2026, Winnie said she has spent years documenting her father’s life, including recording conversations and preserving his voice, and now wants to turn that material into a documentary for a younger audience.

She said the project would help young people consume and understand Raila’s story in a format that is more accessible to them.

Six-part series

Winnie said she would like to make a short six-episode documentary series focusing on her life with her father and some of the major moments they experienced together.

“What I’d love to do more, really, is a documentary series. A short series, six episodes, something on Netflix,” she said.

She explained that her interest in the project is partly driven by the need to make Raila’s story accessible to younger generations.

“So that a lot of younger people can consume the story of it,” Winnie added.

The proposed series would give viewers a more personal account of Raila’s life through the eyes of his daughter, rather than focusing only on his long political career.

Years of recording

Winnie revealed that she has already been gathering material that could form part of the project.

She said she has always been writing, documenting events and recording conversations with her father.

“I’d ask him questions and record his voice and so on,” she said.

She also disclosed plans to write a memoir about her life with Raila, with the book expected to focus on selected moments, including periods around different elections.

The EALA MP also disclosed that she is considering writing a memoir about her life with Raila.

Winnie said the book would focus on specific moments in their lives, including some of the elections and experiences they went through together.

Her comments offer a more personal look at the relationship between the two beyond Raila’s public career.

She described herself as someone who had spent years documenting her father and preserving memories that could eventually form part of a larger project.

Winnie’s proposed documentary comes as the Odinga family continues efforts to preserve Raila’s legacy following his death in October 2025.

During the interview, she also spoke about plans to expand the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Museum in Bondo to include aspects of Raila’s history, alongside material on African history, democracy and constitutional affairs.

The museum, she said, remains open to the public and is free of charge.
