Kenya Met predicts light showers and chilly nights until September 17 in 5-day forecast

The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued its five-day weather outlook valid from September 13, 2026, to September 17, 2026.
According to the advisory released on September 11, 2026, most parts of the country will experience sunny intervals during the day, accompanied by localised rains across specific regions.
The weather agency notes that “light to moderate rainfall is expected in several counties” throughout the forecast period.
Rainfall distribution across regions
Coastal counties, including Mombasa, Kwale, and Kilifi, will encounter light morning showers with sunny intervals in the afternoon.
Lamu County is expected to receive moderate showers on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, before returning to light showers on Thursday, September 17, 2026.
In the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley, afternoon light to moderate showers will affect several places. Trans Nzoia and Bomet counties will see moderate afternoon showers on Sunday, September 13, 2026.
Similar conditions will persist on Monday, September 14, 2026, in West Pokot, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Kericho, Kakamega, and Migori counties, while Kericho will see moderate showers again on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.
For the Central Highlands, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, and Kiambu counties will begin Sunday, September 13, 2026, with light morning rains followed by sunny afternoons.
In Nairobi, residents will experience sunny intervals with light afternoon showers on Sunday, September 13, 2026, Monday, September 14, 2026, and Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
Daytime maximum temperatures in Nairobi will range between 24°C and 28°C, while night temperatures will drop to between 12°C and 15°C.
Northern heat and chilly highland nights
Significant temperature variations will mark conditions across the country. Northern counties will experience elevated daytime heat throughout the period.
Mandera will record the highest maximum temperature of 38°C on Sunday, September 13, 2026, and Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
Turkana will reach maximum temperatures of 37°C on Monday, September 14, 2026, and Tuesday, September 15, 2026, while Garissa is expected to hit 36°C on Thursday, September 17, 2026. Wajir will record maximum highs of 35°C on Sunday, September 13, 2026.
In contrast, high-altitude regions will face cold nights. Nyandarua County will drop to minimum temperatures of 6°C on Monday, September 14, 2026, Tuesday, September 15, 2026, and Thursday, September 17, 2026.
Samburu County will also record a cold night on Sunday, September 13, 2026, with minimum temperatures dipping to 6°C, while Machakos and Kajiado counties will record night minimums of 10°C on select days.
