Kenya Met predicts light to moderate rainfall across several counties from September 10 to 14

Kenyans across most parts of the country can look forward to warm, sunny weather over the next five days, though a few areas should prepare for light rainfall.
According to the latest update from the Kenya Meteorological Department covering the period between September 6, 2026, and September 10, 2026, the overall national outlook remains largely clear.
The weather agency noted that most parts of the country are expected to be sunny and dry. However, forecasters added that light rainfall may occur in a few counties, making it a mostly pleasant week with occasional damp moments for select regions.
Heat in the north, chilly nights in the highlands
Daytime temperatures will rise significantly in northern and north-eastern counties, bringing hot conditions to the region.
Mandera is expected to record the highest temperatures in the country, reaching 38°C on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, and Thursday, September 10, 2026.
Turkana will maintain a steady high of 36°C throughout the five days, while Garissa will see maximum temperatures climb to 35°C towards the end of the forecast period.
On the other end of the scale, residents in parts of the Central Highlands and the Rift Valley will experience cold nights. Nyandarua County will record low minimum temperatures of 4°C from Sunday, September 6, 2026, to Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
Night-time temperatures in Trans Nzoia will drop to 7°C on Thursday, September 10, 2026, while Samburu will record a low of 8°C on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
Where to expect light showers
Rainfall across the country will stay minimal and localised over the five days. Coastal counties including Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu, and Tana River are likely to see light morning or afternoon showers on scattered days, accompanied by sunny intervals.
In the Lake Victoria Basin and parts of Western Kenya, places like Siaya, Busia, Bungoma, Kisii, Nyamira, and Migori will experience occasional afternoon showers.
Meanwhile, Nairobi and neighbouring counties in the Central Highlands will enjoy sunny mornings and afternoons, though light showers are expected on Wednesday night, September 9, 2026, in Nairobi, Kiambu, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi.
