Kenya Met predicts sunny spells and strong winds for most regions on Tuesday, September 8

The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued its weather forecast for Tuesday, September 8, 2026, predicting dry weather and sunny spells across a majority of the country.
Valid until 9:00 pm on September 8, 2026, the update indicates that most regions will enjoy bright conditions, though specific western counties should prepare for localized rain.
Dry conditions and strong gusts across northern and coastal counties
According to the forecast, most parts of the country are expected to remain generally dry. Urban centres including Nairobi, Nakuru, and Mombasa will experience partly cloudy night skies transitioning into sunny intervals during the morning and afternoon.
Daytime maximum temperatures in Nairobi will reach 28°C with a minimum of 13°C, while Mombasa will reach 30°C.
Hot weather will continue in northern Kenya. Mandera and Turkana will record the highest maximum temperatures in the country at 37°C, while Garissa and Wajir will follow closely at 35°C. Conversely, Nyandarua will record the lowest night temperature in the nation at 08°C.
Windy weather will also affect vast parts of the country. The forecast highlights “Strong southerly to southeasterly winds of above 25 knots (12.5m/s) expected over parts of Turkana, Marsabit, Isiolo, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, Tana River, Taita Taveta, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu and Kitui Counties.”
Localised afternoon showers and thunderstorms for western regions
Despite the prevailing dry weather nationwide, rainfall is to be expected in some parts of Kakamega, Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, Nandi, Uasin Gishu, Bomet, Vihiga, Kisumu, Nyandarua and Kericho counties.
Trans Nzoia and Bungoma Counties will see morning light showers and thunderstorms in a few places, followed by sunny intervals and further afternoon rain.
In Kericho and Kakamega, morning sun will give way to moderate showers with thunderstorms expected over few places in the afternoon.
Counties such as Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Bomet, Vihiga, and Kisumu are expected to experience sunny morning intervals before afternoon light showers and thunderstorms set in over isolated spots.
High-altitude areas like Nyandarua will encounter sunny intervals in the afternoon with light showers expected over few places.
Sunrise in Nairobi will occur at 6:27 am with sunset at 6:33 pm, while Mombasa sees sunrise at 6:17 am and sunset at 6:20 pm.
