Everyone has abandoned me: Kevin Migwe Kimwatu shares moving tribute to late wife Rosemary Chemutai

Kevin Migwe Kimwatu has opened up about the difficult two weeks following the death of his wife, Rosemary Chemutai, as he paid an emotional tribute to her during a memorial Mass.
Speaking about the period since Rosemary’s death, Kevin acknowledged that the past two weeks had been challenging, saying the support he had received had helped him navigate the difficult moment.
“It has been a challenging two weeks, and sometimes no one prepares you for some things in life, but with the support I have gotten, I can see everyone has abandoned me, but my CMA people are here, my whole family, and my son Charles and my sisters,” Kevin said on Monday, September 7,2026.
Tribute to late wife
Kevin then read a tribute to his late wife, whom he affectionately referred to as Chemu, reflecting on their relationship, the period they spent together and the life they built as a family.
“Chemu, my love, losing you has left a silence in our home that words cannot describe. Perhaps the silence began three months ago when we slowly drifted apart and the distance between us became something neither you nor I seem to know how to bridge, but nothing could ever prepare me for the final silence your departure has left behind us,” he said.
He recalled how their relationship began when they were young, noting that Rosemary was only 19 when she came into his life and their home.
“Our story began when we were so young. You came into my life and into our home at only 19 years old, and almost immediately, we began building a life together. I had the privilege of walking beside you through your campus years,” he recalled.
“Together with our son, I watched you grow and evolve from Chemu the student to Chemu the lawyer to Chemu the unionist, to Chemu the NGO lady and eventually to Chemu the tech guru.”
He described Rosemary as a determined and hard-working woman who was always pursuing new dreams.
“For you, Chemu, the sky was never the limit. There was always another dream to chase, another mountain to climb and another possibility waiting beyond the horizon. That was Chemu. Determined. Hard-working. Strong. Present,” Kevin added.
Kevin also recalled some of the lighter moments they shared during their marriage, including Rosemary’s humorous approach to driving.
“You would proudly tell anyone who asked, ‘I don’t have to learn how to drive because I have a husband.’ And I was perfectly happy with that arrangement,” he recalled.
He also remembered Rosemary’s love for sunrises and the role he played in capturing those moments for her.
“I will never forget your love for sunrises. You would wake me up so that we could go and watch them together. And then, of course, came my other very important responsibility: I had to take your photographs. I was your official photographer. “You always said that only Mwende was allowed to take over that job when I wasn’t around,” he added.
Marriage life
Reflecting on their 20 years together, Kevin described Rosemary as more than just his wife but also his friend and the mother of their four children.
“Chemu, you were not only my wife for 20 years but also my love, my friend, the mother of our four beautiful children and an irreplaceable part of my life. Death may have ended the life we shared here, but it can never erase the years we had… Rest peacefully, my love. Enjoy the sunrises until we meet again,” he recalled.
Rosemary died on August 21, 2026, leaving behind her husband, four children, family and friends who have continued to pay tribute to her life and career.
