Monday weather: Kenya Met predicts generally dry conditions with pockets of rain

Kenyans preparing for the start of the new workweek on Monday, September 7, 2026, can expect bright conditions across most parts of the country.
According to the bulletin issued by the Kenya Meteorological Department, most parts of the country are expected to remain generally dry.
While clear skies will dominate daytime activities for many commuters, localised showers and afternoon thunderstorms will still affect selected regions.
Rainfall expectations and wind advisories
The weather department notes that rainfall is to be expected in some parts of Kakamega, Bungoma, Siaya, Trans Nzoia, Busia, Nandi, Mombasa, Kwale, Lamu, Nyandarua and Meru counties.
Coastal areas including Kwale, Mombasa, and Lamu will see morning sunny intervals alongside a chance of light showers before skies clear in the afternoon.
Meanwhile, parts of the Lake Victoria Basin and Western Kenya, such as Kakamega and Bungoma, will experience sunny intervals before afternoon light showers and thunderstorms set in over a few places.
In the Central Highlands, Nyandarua and Meru will see afternoon light showers over a few places following cloudy morning spells.
Strong gusty winds are also expected to sweep through several eastern, northern, and coastal counties.
The weatherman warns that “strong southerly to southeasterly winds of above 25 knots (12.5m/s) expected over parts of Turkana, Marsabit, Isiolo, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, Tana river, Taita Taveta, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu and Kitui Counties”.
Regional temperature variations
Temperatures will vary significantly across the country throughout the day. Northern counties will experience high daytime heat, led by Turkana with a maximum temperature of 37°C, Mandera at 36°C, and Garissa at 35°C.
In contrast, residents in Nyandarua should prepare for cold night conditions as temperatures drop to a minimum of 8°C. Narok will record a minimum temperature of 10°C, while Machakos, Kiambu, and Nairobi will drop to 12°C.
In Nairobi, commuters will enjoy sunny intervals throughout the morning and afternoon, with maximum temperatures reaching 27°C and minimum night temperatures dropping to 12°C.
Daylight hours in the capital will begin with sunrise at 6:28 am and sunset at 6:33 pm. Coastal residents in Mombasa can expect daytime maximums of 29°C and minimums of 23°C, with sunrise at 6:17 am and sunset at 6:20 pm.
Nakuru will record daytime highs of 28°C with sunrise at 6:30 am, while Kisumu will reach 30°C with sunset expected at 6:42 pm.
