Ruto breaks down in tears after young Bomet girl shares her struggles

President William Ruto was overcome with emotion after a young girl shared her struggles during his public engagement in Bomet on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
The emotional moment unfolded during Ruto’s ongoing four-day tour of Bomet and Kericho counties, where he is engaging residents and inspecting and launching various development projects.
During the rally, the young girl was helped by people around Ruto to climb onto the vehicle where the president was addressing residents.
She then recited a poem in Kalenjin dedicated to Ruto and his leadership before opening up to the president about the challenges facing her family.
After completing her poem, the visibly emotional girl told the president, “Mama yangu anateseka,” meaning “My mother is suffering.”
The girl then broke down in tears, prompting an emotional response from Ruto. The president reached into his pocket and pulled out a white handkerchief, which he first used to wipe his own tears before turning to the young girl and wiping her tears.
Emotional Ruto then hugged the girl in a show of comfort as the crowd watched the emotional exchange.
The moment stood out during Ruto’s engagement with residents in Bomet, where he is on a four-day tour of the South Rift region.
Ruto Bomet tour
Ruto kicked off his four-day tour on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, beginning his visit in Bomet County with the laying of a foundation stone for the Kapkwen Modern Market.
His programme in Bomet includes visits to development projects in healthcare, roads and affordable housing, alongside public engagements with residents.
The President is scheduled to visit Itembe Airstrip and Bomet Mother & Child Hospital before proceeding to Bomet Town, where he is expected to inspect road projects and Affordable Housing Programme developments.
Ruto will also visit Tegat in Bomet East and Mindililwet in Soin Sigowet as part of his first day’s engagements.
The tour will continue on Thursday, September 10, with the president scheduled to visit Furaha in Kipkelion East, Rungut Primary School in Bureti and Kapkatet Stadium. He will also make stops at Kiplokyi in Bomet Central and Kamureito in Sotik.
On Friday, September 11, Ruto is expected to visit Kokwet in Kipkelion West, Kapsoit in Ainamoi and Torit Junction before proceeding to Boito in Konoin.
The President will conclude his four-day tour on Saturday, September 12, with a visit to Chebunyo in Bomet before proceeding to Kericho Town.
