Comedian Sammy Kioko announces he will run for Mavoko MP seat in 2027

Comedian Sammy Kioko has officially announced his candidature for the Mavoko Constituency parliamentary seat ahead of the 2027 General Election, marking his entry into elective politics.
Speaking on Friday, September 11, 2026, at an official candidature unveiling event, Kioko said he had made the decision with humility, gratitude and a deep sense of responsibility after listening to and walking alongside the people he now hopes to represent.
The comedian told those gathered that he felt ready to take what he described as the next step in his journey, formally declaring his intention to contest the Mavoko MP seat in the 2027 elections.
“On this day, September 11, 2026, I stand before you with a lot of humility, gratitude and a big sense of responsibility,” Kioko said.
He said his decision had been shaped by the experiences he had shared with the people of Mavoko, noting that he had listened to them and walked with them before arriving at the decision to seek their support in the next election.
“I have listened, I have walked with you and I am ready to take the next step. I, Sammy Kioko, officially declare my candidature for the Member of Parliament, Mavoko Constituency,” he said.
Kioko also unveiled his campaign slogan, “Mbele Pazuri,” as he formally launched his political ambitions before his supporters, friends, family and members of the community.
The announcement effectively places the comedian among the personalities preparing to venture into the 2027 political contest, with his declaration signalling a shift from his established career in comedy and entertainment to elective politics.
During the event, Kioko also expressed his appreciation to the people who turned up for the unveiling, acknowledging the presence of his friends, family and members of the community.
“I want to thank you all for coming as friends, family and community. I thank you all,” he said.
Reflecting on the significance of the moment, Kioko said some of life’s defining moments are not planned but instead arrive unexpectedly and present people with challenges that require them to make important decisions.
“Some moments in life are not planned. They find you and they challenge you,” he said.
Kioko described his candidature announcement as one of those defining moments, saying he had found himself standing before the people as he took the political step.
“For me, that moment is today. I stand in front of you,” he said.
The comedian made the announcement during a lavish event he had hosted specifically for the unveiling of his candidature, bringing together a number of personalities from Kenya’s entertainment industry alongside friends, family and members of the community.
Among the celebrities who attended the event were comedian Tom Daktari, content creator Terence Creative, gospel singer John Kay and MC Kayeye, who joined Kioko as he formally unveiled his political ambitions.
