Tumeweka siasa kwa roho sana: Sammy Kioko calls for change in political mindset
Sammy Kioko has called for a change in how Kenyans view and react to politics, saying people have made political differences too personal and emotional.
In an interview on Friday, May 15, 2026, he spoke about the need for citizens to separate personal relationships from political opinions and focus more on independent thinking.
Sammy Kioko said politics has become too emotional for many people, leading to unnecessary hatred and division among Kenyans. He explained that people should be free to support different leaders without being judged or attacked.

“Tumeweka siasa kwa roho sana,” Sammy Kioko said.
“Eti sasa nataka kukuchukia because una support mtu wako. Eti sasa unichukie juu mimi. I have my own stand, because of politics?” he added.
Changing the political mindset
Sammy Kioko further explained that this kind of thinking should change because politics is simply a job like any other profession. The comedian compared leaders to teachers and doctors, saying they should be treated as professionals and not as people who deserve blind loyalty.

“Hiyo ndio mentality tunafaa tutoe. Let us treat politicians as teachers, as doctors. Ni kazi,” he said.
He added that people should avoid placing politicians on a high pedestal or treating them as untouchable figures. According to him, leaders should be judged based on their actions and service delivery, not emotional attachment.
“Isikae eti wewe ni mungu. Ni kazi. Unafaa uhudumie ukweli,” Sammy Kioko stated.
Applying critical thinking
He went on to say that citizens should think critically and avoid fear when engaging in political discussions. He encouraged people to use their own judgment instead of being influenced by pressure or fear from others.
“Na mimi hakuna politician anaweza nidanganya. Usiuziwe woga. Use your brain,” he said.
Sammy Kioko also mentioned that he personally has friendships with politicians but still chooses to speak honestly with them. He said that speaking the truth has even earned him a nickname among some of them.
“Mimi niko na marafiki wangapi politicians. Mimi nawaambianga ukweli, wananiita mtiaji,” he explained.
He further said that Kenyans do not want handouts and should focus on building a better future through honest engagement. According to him, the country must start preparing for a change in future elections.
“We don’t want handouts. 2027, let us change the game,” Sammy Kioko said.
