Former US First Lady Melania Trump has paid tribute to the 2,977 people who lost their lives in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks as the United States marks 25 years since one of the darkest days in its history.
In a Facebook post on September 11, 2026, Melania honoured the victims while reflecting on the enduring grief carried by families who lost loved ones, acknowledging that the anniversary represents far more than a date on the calendar for those whose lives were permanently altered by the attacks.
“To those who lost loved ones, dreams, and hope on September 11, I know today marks only one day in an immeasurable void,” Melania wrote in a message commemorating the anniversary.
The former First Lady noted that the events of September 11 froze time for those directly affected, leaving behind a profound sense of grief that has endured for a quarter of a century.
“September 11 froze time and left profound grief,” she wrote, reflecting on the emotional weight carried by those who continue to remember the people they lost.
Melania further connected the depth of the grief experienced by survivors and families to the love that existed before the tragedy, noting that the pain left behind by the attacks was also a reflection of the relationships that had been taken away.
“Yet the depth of your loss speaks to the depth of the love that came before it,” she wrote.
Her message came as Americans and people around the world marked 25 years since the coordinated attacks that claimed 2,977 innocent lives on September 11, 2001.
The attacks targeted the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, while another hijacked plane crashed in Pennsylvania after passengers and crew members attempted to regain control of the aircraft.
The two planes that struck the World Trade Center brought down the Twin Towers, killing thousands of people inside the buildings and aboard the aircraft, while the attack on the Pentagon claimed additional lives.
Flight 93 crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after passengers and crew members confronted the hijackers, preventing the aircraft from reaching its intended target.
The victims came from different backgrounds and countries, turning the attacks into a tragedy whose impact extended far beyond American borders.
