KeNHA announces partial closure of Mombasa Road at Cabanas from September 17

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a temporary partial closure of a section of Mombasa Road (A8) at the Cabanas-Eastern Bypass off-ramp.
The closure will affect motorists travelling towards the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and will run from Thursday, September 17, 2026, to Thursday, October 22, 2026.
In a public notice dated Thursday, September 10, 2026, KeNHA said the closure is necessary to facilitate construction works along the affected section of the road.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) notifies the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A8) at the Cabanas on the Eastern Bypass Off-Ramp on JKIA bound will be temporarily closed partially from Thursday, September 17, 2026, to Thursday, October 22, 2026,” the authority stated.
Reason for the closure
According to KeNHA, the temporary closure will allow contractors to undertake construction of a box drain on the road section.
The authority said the works are part of efforts requiring temporary traffic adjustments at the affected area, with motorists expected to follow the designated diversion.
“All motorists intending to use Mombasa Road (JKIA bound) from Eastern Bypass will use the provided diversion lane and follow the proposed directions by traffic marshals to ensure minimal traffic disruption in compliance with road safety measures,” KeNHA stated.
The authority has urged motorists using the route to exercise caution and cooperate with traffic officers and marshals during the construction period.
Traffic management
KeNHA further advised motorists to adhere to the proposed traffic management plan while travelling through the affected section.
“Motorists are further advised to follow the proposed traffic management plan as well as cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site,” the authority said.
The partial closure is expected to remain in place for more than a month as the construction works continue.
Motorists travelling from the Eastern Bypass towards JKIA are therefore expected to use the provided diversion lane and follow directions issued by traffic marshals at the site.
KeNHA said normal traffic operations will resume once the construction works are completed.
“Normal traffic operations on the road will be restored upon completion of the works,” the authority stated.
The authority has asked motorists to plan their journeys accordingly and observe road safety measures while using the affected route during the construction period.
