Karen Lojore’s friend shares her moments before fatal incident at Asake concert in Nairobi

Friends of Karen Lojore have shared chilling details of her final moments before the tragic incident at the Asake concert in Nairobi.
The 20-year-old Daystar University student had attended the concert with her friends, unaware of the danger ahead.
Speaking to a local media station on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, one of her friends who had attended the concert said they were assigned to different entry gates, and that Karen called to inform them that they should meet inside.
Both she and her other friends managed to enter the venue safely, but Karen and another friend were caught up in the crowd at a different gate.
The situation quickly turned tragic for those who were separated.
“Walikuwa kwa gate different and us we were put in a different gate, alafu we waited for them and then Karen called and said ‘tumungoje like tutapatana huko ndani‘, and we just entered, both of us managed to get in safely but the other two walipatana kwa ile stampede,” Lojore’s friend said.

News of her demise
Another friend said that upon entering, they realised their other friends had taken a long time to get in, so they decided to call them.
They were then informed of the unfortunate news and went to check on their friends, only to learn, sadly, that Karen had passed away.
“Upon getting in, we realised they had been delayed getting in for a very long time, and we decided to call them, and we were hit with the unfortunate news, and we had to go and check on our friends, and unfortunately, the demise of Karen is what we got,” Flavian Mwavali said.
Her memorial service was held on Wednesday, December 24, 2025.
Lojore’s death
UK-based Nigerian musician Gabzy, Nigerian star Asake and Tukutane Entertainment, the organisers of the concert, have expressed deep heartbreak following her death.
“I’m heartbroken over the incident that took place outside of the festival in Kenya on December 20th. My deepest condolences and prayers go out to Karen Lojore’s family, friends, and everyone affected by this,” Gabzy said.
“My heart goes out to the family, friends, and loved ones of Karen Lojore, and I pledge to support and do my best to understand what happened. Those responsible should be held accountable,” Asake said.
“We are committed to approaching this situation with care, transparency, and accountability, and will share additional information as appropriate and in coordination with the relevant authorities,” Tukutane Entertainment organiser noted.
