Gospel singer Edith Wairimu’s father, Livingstone Mwaura Njeri, has been laid to rest in an emotional ceremony attended by hundreds of mourners, including family members, friends, and members of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA), where he was a devoted member of the Presbyterian Church Men’s Fellowship (PCMF).

The solemn day began at the PCEA Kikuyu Hospital mortuary, where family members took turns viewing his body, with some breaking down in tears upon seeing him for the final time.

The funeral procession then proceeded to the church, where reverends led the congregation in prayer and intercession, offering comfort and spiritual support as they mourned the gospel singer’s late father.

Tributes were later read during the service, with Edith Wairimu also taking a moment to honour her father, describing him as a kind, loving, and deeply caring man who impacted many lives.

The day concluded with graveside proceedings, where the casket was gently lowered into the grave.

Family members were among the first to participate in the final rites before mourners collectively filled the grave with soil in a ritual marked by deep sorrow, emotional sobs, and overwhelming grief from those present.

Debilitating illness

Previously, the singer had shared an emotional tribute, revealing that her late father battled illness for six years before his death.

In a Facebook message on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, Edith reflected on the pain and strength the family endured during her father’s long health journey, noting that in 2020, doctors had given him only three months to live after his condition worsened.

She said the family went through a difficult period marked by prayer, fasting, and emotional struggle as they held onto hope despite the medical prognosis.

“Dad fought for 6 years. 6 years of everything life could throw at us. 6 years of bouncing back every time! In 2020, he was told he had 3 months to live. Oh! We prayed! We fasted! We cried! And the God of Hezekiah added 6 more years to His life. I’m not saying the doctor was wrong,” she wrote.

Edith stated that against expectations, her father lived for an additional six years, describing it as a testimony of faith and divine intervention, saying she believes God extended his life beyond what doctors had predicted.

“I’m saying there’s a God who can defy medicine and what medics say. Tonight, we celebrate the life of this man by lighting candles for him. Tonight, we thank God for his life. I’m not saying that because of these 6 years it’s easy. It’s very hard. Very hard,” she added.
