Carrick upbeat after Manchester United hold PSG in pre-season

Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick believes his team is making encouraging progress as preparations for the new Premier League season enter their final stage.
United held reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain to a 1-1 pre-season stalemate in Sweden on Saturday, August 8, 2026, but Carrick was pleased with the performance against the French side, particularly the way his players responded after conceding an early goal.
PSG needed less than two minutes to take the lead through Ibrahim Mbaye. United, however, recovered and levelled through Bryan Mbeumo, who continued his impressive pre-season form after scoring twice against Atletico de Madrid.
Amad provided the assist for Mbeumo’s equaliser, while the forward also came close to adding another goal later in the match.
The game also marked the return of several players to United’s pre-season group, with Noussair Mazraoui, Diogo Dalot, Bruno Fernandes and Youri Tielemans all featuring.
There were concerns over Tom Heaton and Mason Mount, however, after both players were forced off during the contest. United will hope neither injury proves serious as the season opener approaches.
Full squad in Ireland
With only two pre-season fixtures remaining, Carrick is particularly keen to have the majority of his squad working together during the team’s upcoming training camp in County Kildare.
Reflecting on the next stage of preparations after the PSG match, Carrick told MUTV:
“I’m looking forward to it,” Carrick said of the upcoming stay near Dublin. “It’s been, a little bit, different chapters through pre-season and we’ll get everybody together, when we get to Dublin over the next couple of days.
“It’ll be great, two more games this week and, again, I’m looking forward to seeing the group develop.”
United will now travel to Ireland, where they are scheduled to face Leeds United on Wednesday before completing their pre-season programme against AC Milan on Saturday.
The two matches will give Carrick another opportunity to assess his players and build momentum before Manchester United begin their 2026/27 Premier League campaign.
The club is also expected to provide extensive coverage of the training camp in County Kildare through its official media platforms.
