Shorn Arwa tells ladies to comfort men after their football teams lose

Kenyan content creator and comedian Shorn Arwa has stirred conversation online after urging women to show extra care to their partners during football season.
According to her, the emotional toll of watching a football game can be so overwhelming that men deserve comfort and reassurance, especially when their teams lose.
“After every football match, ladies, please check on your man. Give him a massage or do something to cheer him up, especially after they lose,” Arwa said in a heartfelt post on Instagram on Friday, September 5, 2025.
She admitted that she herself was left feeling drained after watching a match, saying she was overwhelmed, sweating, and frustrated by the rollercoaster of emotions.
“I honestly don’t know how men have supported and watched football for years. Emotions are so high,” she confessed, acknowledging the passion and pressure that come with supporting a team.
Kenya’s painful defeat
Arwa’s remarks came in the wake of Kenya’s crushing 3-1 loss to Gambia at Kasarani in the World Cup qualifier on Friday. The defeat officially ended the Harambee Stars’ hopes in Group F, sparking frustration and disappointment among fans across the country.

The result was particularly painful as it followed weeks after Kenya’s elimination from the CHAN tournament, where their campaign ended at the knockout stages. For many supporters, the loss felt like a double blow, raising questions about the national team’s preparedness and consistency.
The match against Gambia was only the second meeting between the two sides, following their dramatic 3-3 draw in March 2025. This time, however, Gambia outclassed Kenya, leaving the Harambee Stars vulnerable in the standings.
A win for Kenya would have created a five-point gap over their West African rivals, but the loss means Gambia now has the upper hand with two rounds still to play.
The disappointment was felt not only by the players but also by millions of fans, whose hopes for a breakthrough in the qualifiers were dashed. It is against this backdrop that Shorn Arwa’s comments resonated deeply, as she reminded her audience of the heavy emotional investment men, and indeed many women, place in football.
