The late TikTok star Brian Chira’s grandmother, Esther Njeri, popularly known online as Cucu wa Chira, has been thrown into fresh mourning following the death of a man she described as one of her closest family friends.

Speaking in a TikTok live on Friday, June 26, 2026, the grieving grandmother extended her condolences to the family of the deceased while revealing just how close they had been over the years.

According to Cucu wa Chira, the deceased, whom she identified as Kibilku Wagai, also known as Baba Rose, hailed from Gathanji in Mujeme and had remained an important figure in her life for many years.

“My condolences go to Mama Rose. Please give yourself strength because I know that God is with you. Mama Rose from Gathanji, Mujeme. Rest in peace, Baba Rose, whom we popularly referred to as Kibilku Wagai, also from Gathanji, Mujeme,” she said.

The elderly grandmother disclosed that the loss had deeply affected her because Baba Rose was not just a friend but someone who had been part of her life since childhood.

She explained that the family had always stood by her and played a significant role while she was growing up.

Cucu wa Chira also took the opportunity to mourn another family that had recently lost a loved one.

She sent condolences to a man identified as Tom, who works with Inagi Sacco, following the death of his father.

“And at the same time, I am heartbroken also for Tom, who works with Inagi Sacco, for losing his dad, who is also from Gathanji, Mujeme,” she said.

The grandmother admitted that both deaths had left her emotionally devastated because the two families had always been very close to her.

According to her, many people who attended Brian Chira’s burial would easily recognise the families because they actively participated in the emotional send-off.

“Those people, I am really mourning them because they were really close to me. Those who were at Brian Chira’s burial may know them and saw them with me. They are family friends,” she explained.

She further revealed that the late Baba Rose and his family lived near the place where Brian Chira was eventually laid to rest, making their relationship even stronger over the years.

According to Cucu wa Chira, the family cared for her while she was still young and remained an important part of her life into adulthood.

“They lived near where we buried Chira. They are the ones who took care of me when I was young. They were good, and I was so close with them,” she said emotionally.

Chira’s untimely death

Her latest message comes barely two years after she endured the heartbreaking loss of her grandson, TikTok sensation Brian Chira.

Chira died on March 16, 2024, after he was involved in a fatal hit-and-run road accident in Kiambu County.

A postmortem later confirmed that the content creator succumbed to severe multiple organ injuries and blunt force trauma after being struck by a speeding vehicle.

His death sparked an outpouring of grief across Kenya, particularly among young people and members of the TikTok community, who came together to give him a befitting send-off.

Brian Chira was buried on March 26, 2024, at his grandmother’s ancestral home in Ingitei Village, Gathanje, Githunguri Constituency, Kiambu County.

In fulfilment of his grandmother’s wish, he was laid to rest dressed in a black suit and a university graduation gown as a tribute to his academic achievements and dreams.

The funeral attracted thousands of mourners, including fellow TikTok creators, fans and friends from across the country.

The online community also raised more than Ksh7 million, money that was used to build a new home for Cucu wa Chira and to cater for Brian’s funeral expenses.
