Savara gets candid about loneliness after going on music tour without Sauti Sol bandmates

Grammy-certified singer, songwriter and Sauti Sol co-founder Savara has opened up about the emotional side of pursuing a solo music career, revealing that his recent solo tour left him feeling lonely before an emotional reunion with the Sol Generation team.

Speaking after attending a planning meeting for this year’s Sol Fest on Friday, June 26, 2026, Savara said returning to work alongside the people who have been part of his musical journey reminded him just how much he had missed being around his community.

According to the singer, the meeting brought together Sol Fest directors and members of the organising team to review the lineup, listen to music and make key decisions ahead of the annual festival.

“Oh yeah, that has been a good session. I just came from a Sol Fest meeting with the directors and the team to determine the artistes and the music that will be played. It was just to listen and discuss, and it has been amazing,” he said.

Savara explained that because he had been away on an extensive solo musical tour, he had spent a significant amount of time away from the Sol Generation family, making the reunion especially meaningful.

He admitted that performing as a solo artiste had been a completely different experience from touring as part of a group, describing the journey as one that occasionally felt lonely.

“From my recent musical tour, I have not been able to meet my community, the Sol Fest team and Sol Generation as well. So that meeting made me feel back at home. You know, the tour I recently did was a solo tour, so it was a bit lonely. Being back and part of the family has made me feel so at home and so alive,” he said.

Beyond the reunion, Savara expressed pride in how far Sol Generation has grown over the years.

The award-winning musician noted that one of the biggest achievements for him is seeing the organization reach a point where it no longer depends entirely on its founders to make important decisions.

According to him, the long-term vision has always been to build structures that would allow the team to continue operating independently while maintaining the values and vision of the brand.

“And I am very happy that these days our team is very self-reliant and it doesn’t need us so much for them to make decisions because we are creating Sol Fest in a way that we won’t always be needed for the team to make decisions. So it’s beautiful to see that the system is working,” he explained.

Savara went on to compare the experience to watching years of hard work finally pay off.

He said witnessing Sol Generation continue to thrive without constant involvement from its founders had given him a new appreciation for what older people feel when they see their life’s work continue to flourish.

“Now I understand how old people feel when they see their years of effort paying off and the investments running. I hope by the time I am old I will feel this way also. It’s happy to see that,” he added.

The singer also took the opportunity to build excitement around the upcoming edition of Sol Fest, promising fans another memorable experience.

He thanked supporters for their continued loyalty over the years, saying their unwavering support has played a major role in keeping both Sol Generation and the festival alive.

“And Sol Fest will be so lit. Shout out to everybody, the fans who have been keeping us alive because that’s how we have been able to move,” he said.

Savara is one of the founding members of Sauti Sol, the celebrated Kenyan Afro-pop group that has enjoyed continental and international success since its formation in 2005.

Alongside his bandmates, he also co-founded Sol Generation, a record label and creative platform that has nurtured several Kenyan artistes while expanding into other creative ventures.

In recent years, Savara has increasingly focused on his solo career, releasing music under his unique “Afro-Confusion” sound while continuing to contribute to projects associated with the Sol Generation brand.
