Shorn Arwa explains how she came up with popular phrase ‘unless they kill God’

Content creator Shorn Arwa has opened up about the origin of her popular phrase “unless they kill God”, revealing how a personal family conversation ended up shaping a message that has since inspired many of her followers.
Speaking during an interview on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, Shorn recalled a moment of disagreement within her family that later turned into a turning point in how she views challenges in life.
How the phrase was born
Shorn explained that the idea came up during a heated exchange with her aunt, when a conversation about difficult family circumstances took an unexpected direction. According to her, her aunt was trying to encourage resilience despite loss, but the wording used left a lasting impression on her thinking.
“So what happened one of these fine days I don’t know what we’re arguing about with my mom’s sister. So there was an issue and she was like even if you guys are orphans, it’s only your parents who have died, you guys will survive. God has not died. You guys will survive,” she said.

Shorn said the statement made her pause and reflect deeply on the meaning behind it, especially the idea of continuing to push forward despite difficult situations. She then described how that moment changed her perspective entirely.
“And I said, wait a minute, so it’s God who needs to die for us to fail. That moment almost like a switch just went off, and I knew unless they kill God, we still have a fighting chance,” she stated.
A message that shaped her outlook
Shorn added that the realisation stayed with her long after the conversation ended, influencing how she responds to challenges and setbacks. She explained that as someone outspoken, the phrase gave her a renewed sense of determination and accountability in her own life.

“I don’t even think she understands the magnitude of what that did to me. Because I, as somebody who is very mouthy, I remember just looking at her… I was just thinking, I don’t have an excuse because whoever is in charge of good life, blessing me, prosperity is not dead yet,” she emphasised.
Inspiring a wider movement
Beyond the personal reflection, Shorn said the phrase has now evolved into a message of hope and motivation for others facing difficulties. She noted that her goal is to create a community that encourages people to look beyond their current struggles and believe in better outcomes.
“This is something that I want everybody listening to understand. I want us to have a community that does not only focus on the situation they are going through. Maybe unless they kill God. And as long as God is not dead, we must make it,” she stated.

Launch of motivation event
Shorn also revealed that the message has inspired her to organise an event aimed at bringing people together for motivation and shared experiences. She said the gathering will feature guest speakers and achievers flown in from different places to encourage attendees who may be going through difficult moments.
“So I decided to come up with this huge event where anybody who is going through anything and wants to be motivated can come and sit down,” she stated.
She added that attendance will be limited, saying, “I was to do 80, but now people are buying the tickets so I’m doing only 100.”
