President William Ruto has declared Kiambu County the top recipient of national funding for road construction, citing a record Ksh40 billion allocation for key infrastructure projects.

Speaking during a service in Limuru, Kiambu County, on Sunday, August 10, 2025, the President said Ksh22 billion had been set aside for the road from Pangani to Ndumberi, whose contract was recently announced, funded through resources sourced from China.

Additionally, he stated that another Ksh20 billion has been allocated for the Ruaka–Ruiru bypass, bringing the total to Ksh40 billion for Kiambu alone.

“If there is a county that I have allocated the most money for construction, it is Kiambu County. Ksh22 billion will be used to construct the road from Pangani to Ndumberi. You saw the contract was announced the other day. Of the money I raised from China, I allocated it there. The bypass from Ruaka connecting Ruiru is another Ksh20 billion. That is a total of Ksh40 billion in one county,” he stated.

Ruto acknowledged past delays in some road works, attributing them to economic challenges, but assured residents that the country’s financial stability had now improved, paving the way for accelerated infrastructure completion.

“And these other roads, you know, we had a bit of challenges, and I told you to exercise patience as I plan. We had economic challenges, but now the country is stable. We are completing the Kangemi and Gitaru interchange and now Kamandura.”

Further, he revealed that in October 2025, he will commission the dualling of the Rironi-Mau Summit Highway and later extend it to Malaba, as well as the dual carriageway from Kamandura to Naivasha.

This comes a few days after Deputy President Kithure Kindiki affirmed the government’s plan to hasten the dualling of the Rironi-Mau Summit Highway, saying construction works are to commence before the end of this month.

Speaking on August 1, 2025, during the Nakuru Town East Economic Empowerment event, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki said the highway will significantly ease transport between Nairobi and the western parts of the country.

“The construction of the Rironi-Mau Summit Highway beginning this August will be a game-changer in the movement of people and transportation of goods in a safer, faster, and effective way, accelerating the socio-economic transformation of the Rift Valley, Western, and Nyanza regions and connecting Kenya to the East African Community,” Kindiki said.
