Mbadi attributes crowd vigil on Madaraka Day to newfound love for Ruto

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has attributed the crowd witnessed on the eve of the Madaraka Day celebrations to the newfound love for President William Ruto by the Nyanza populace.
Speaking on Friday, June 6, 2025, in Kapseret Constituency in Uasin Gishu County, the CS reflected that the residents leaving the comforts of their houses to sleep in the stadium in anticipation of the occasion was a testament to the people’s love for the president.
“The President was in Homa Bay, and the people slept in the stadium. When Luos love you, they love you unconditionally,” the CS remarked.
Mbadi, who now works in government fiscal policies, pointed out that the acceptance is earned in line with the president’s record of development projects across the nation.

“We have decided to love Ruto for the developmental works he is undertaking. As a community, we also need to feel the warmth of the government, and we are now in the government to stay,” he stated.
The CS also shared a personal reflection of his improbable journey from the trenches of opposition to a cabinet secretary. The ODM politician asserting that Ruto’s decision to appoint him to head the Treasury docket spoke volumes about his leadership style.
“In the entire world, it is difficult to get a president to pick a person from another faction of the opposition and to pick him as the finance minister. A person who didn’t campaign for him and had him as his finance minister. This means Ruto is a courageous leader and one who takes risks.
The CS further promised to deliver in his role of furthering the government’s development policies and agenda.
“I want to assure you I will not fail him. I will do my job to the best of my ability and see that our economy moves forward. When Ruto was elected, we had a high deficit and were running on debts. So, when I hear people saying the government has failed in its mandate, I’m left wondering,” he stated.

During the historic event held for the very first time in the Lake region, thousands of residents were recorded occupying various sitting places within the newly refurbished stadium on the eve of the celebrations.
The surge of people prompted the security officers deployed in the area to open the gates at around 9:30 pm for the residents who had started queuing as early as 7 pm.
According to videos shared online, then, the Raila Odinga Stadium was almost halfway full by 10:30 pm on Saturday, May 31, 2025, and by midnight on Sunday, June 1, it was already full to capacity.
