Starehe Member of Parliament Charles Njagua, alias Jaguar, will spend the weekend behind bars as detectives gather evidence in a case where the legislator is accused of uttering xenophobic remarks against Tanzanian and Ugandan traders working in Nairobi.
Jaguar was arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts on Friday, June 28, when his supposed bond application was to be made by his legal team.
The magistrate, instead, ordered that Jaguar be detained at Kileleshwa Police Station for three working days – Friday, June 28; Monday, July 1; and Tuesday, July 2.
The MP will be arraigned in court on Wednesday, July 3, when an application for his release is expected to be made.
Jaguar was arrested on Wednesday, June 26 outside Parliament Buildings after he, on Monday, asked city traders to “beat up” and “kick out” Tanzanian and Ugandan business operators in Nairobi.
The MP’s remarks triggered a diplomatic tiff between Kenya and Tanzania.
