Octopizzo questions comparison to John Kiarie and Jaguar amid Kibra MP ambitions

Kenyan rapper Octopizzo has spoken out against constant comparisons to the Dagoretti South Member of Parliament, John Kiarie, and former Starehe MP Charles Njagua Kanyi, popularly known as Jaguar, following his indication that he may run for the Kibra parliamentary seat.

Both Kiarie and Jaguar transitioned from entertainment into politics, with Kiarie originally a comedian and Jaguar a musician known for hits like Kigeugeu before entering public office.

In a post on X on Saturday, November 8, 2025, Octopizzo expressed frustration over the frequent mentions of the two whenever his political ambitions or leadership style are discussed.

He questioned why people highlight KJ and Jaguar while overlooking other visionary figures who have influenced his journey.

“It’s fascinating how quick people are to mention names like KJ and Jaguar whenever my leadership journey comes up,” he said.

“Yet they rarely acknowledge visionaries like my brother Bobi Wine, with whom I’ve worked on projects across Kenya and Uganda, or global icons like George Weah and other creatives who turned their art into instruments of transformation.”

Octopizzo further emphasised that leadership cannot be measured by comparisons to others. He argued that every leader’s journey is unique, shaped by personal experiences, awareness, and a commitment to purpose.

“Leadership isn’t a comparison contest, it’s a calling born from lived experience, awareness, and a sense of purpose,” he said, stressing that trying to measure his ambitions against those of other politicians oversimplifies the challenges and vision involved in serving a community.

The rapper who grew up in Kibra highlighted that despite differing paths, the ultimate goal remains the same: driving meaningful change.

“Our journeys may differ, but our mission for change is one. Kibera will rise, not by chance, but by choice, by unity, and by vision. The future is local,” he added, signalling that his political approach will focus on community-driven initiatives and local empowerment rather than following precedent or external comparisons.
