Jaguar explains what transpired during his Mataha Festival performance

Former Starehe Member of Parliament (MP) and musician Charles Njagua Kanyi, professionally known as Jaguar, has explained what transpired during his performance at the Mataha Festival 4.0.
In a statement shared on his official social media accounts on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, Jaguar addressed the viral video claiming he walked off stage during his performance at the festival, terming the clips circulating online as edited and misleading.
“I’ve seen an edited video circulating. I did not leave the stage during the Mataha Festival on June 13,” Jaguar said.
The musician clarified that he did not leave the stage during the June 13 event, insisting that the interruption was caused by a technical problem with the DJ equipment.

He said the incident occurred while he was performing his patriotic hit song, dubbed ‘Matapeli’, when the sound system experienced a malfunction.
“What happened? The DJ equipment malfunctioned while I was singing ‘Matapeli‘, a very patriotic song 🇰🇪,” he explained.
According to Jaguar, the crowd remained engaged during the brief silence and continued chanting as the technical team worked to restore the sound.
He noted that once the issue was fixed, he resumed the performance, and the show continued with high energy.
“The crowd chanted during the short silence while the team fixed the sound. Once the music came back on, we finished the show together with high energy! I have posted the full performance video,” the former MP said.
Jaguar also expressed gratitude to his fans, revealing that more than 10,000 people had paid to watch him perform, several years after taking a break from the music scene.

Jaguar on fans
He said the overwhelming support he received proved that his fans remained loyal and still knew his songs word for word.
“Over 10,000 fans paid to see me on stage, several years after my long silence from music, and they still sing my songs LINE BY LINE!,” he said.
The Kigeugeu hitmaker also urged his loyal fans not to believe the fake viral stories circulation on social media.
“My fans do not believe in fake stories,” Jaguar urged.
The singer also shared the full performance video to counter the false narratives being spread online, adding that he remains focused and is not affected by negative stories.
“I put God first. I am not deterred by negative stories, so keep editing. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” he added.
