Gachagua: Ruto used to show up at my house crying and begging for help

Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) party leader and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused President William Ruto of crying at his Wamunyoro home in pursuit of political support ahead of the 2022 electioneering period.
Speaking on the night of Friday, May 16, 2025, during his interview on the Obinna Show, Gachagua claimed that Ruto used tears to deceive him.
He further argued that the head of state used to go to the extent of praying for his family, despite him having a pastor in his house, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi.
According to Gachagua, Ruto had at some point felt that the former DP would shift his allegiance to the former President Uhuru Kenyatta, since he used to be his personal assistant.
Deceit
As a result, Gachagua claims, Ruto would break into tears, begging him not to go back to Uhuru.
“I went into an arrangement with this guy without writing anything. I believed the guy because he would even come here and pray for us, and there is a pastor in this house. This guy is amazing in terms of deception and conmanship.
“The guy would even come here and cry tears. I am telling you. When you see a grown-up man cry, you feel for him. You know I was a great friend of Uhuru Kenyatta; I was his PA, and at one point he felt like I was under much pressure from my family and other friends to go back to Uhuru Kenyatta, and he knew if I left him, he was done.
“So he was here crying, My brother, please, I beg you, don’t leave me. I have suffered. I am a good man. I am a Christian. My brother, let us get together. Crying tears, and then I said, Okay, pastor, let us save this man,” Gachagua narrated.
“I was in shock. If it were a woman or child crying, I would’ve taken it lightly, but if it is a grown-up man crying, you take it very seriously,” he added.
Gachagua on fallout with Ruto
Gachagua says his fallout with Ruto has made him not trust people easily, especially those seeking to work with him politically.
“When people come here, I look at them closely. I look for possible betrayers. I’m very careful. His picture there is a constant reminder for me to be careful. That picture will remain there forever, for the rest of my life,” he added.
