Marcus Rashford has developed a remarkable reputation in the League Cup, with the Manchester United forward having consistently delivered goals and assists in the competition.

Rashford first featured in the tournament in 2016, making his debut against Northampton Town. He immediately made an impact, scoring as United secured a 3-1 away victory.

Since that first appearance, Rashford has accumulated 24 goal contributions in 25 League Cup matches. His tally currently stands at 16 goals and eight assists, a record no other Manchester United player has matched in the competition over the same period.

His first League Cup campaign ended with a winners’ medal. Rashford featured in the 2016/17 final against Southampton as Jose Mourinho’s side claimed a thrilling 3-2 victory to lift the trophy.

The England international continued to produce in subsequent seasons. He scored twice in three League Cup appearances in 2017/18 before finding the net four times across three matches during the 2019/20 campaign.

Rashford’s most productive League Cup run came in the 2022/23 season when United went all the way to the trophy. He scored in every round he played before also finding the target in the final against Newcastle United at Wembley.

His goal ultimately helped United secure a 2-0 victory and lift the trophy for the first time since 2017.

Rashford has also been highly effective when playing the competition at Old Trafford. In his last 11 League Cup appearances at the stadium, he has registered 15 goal contributions, including 10 goals.

Despite his impressive numbers, Rashford still has one Manchester United player ahead of him on the club’s all-time League Cup scoring list.

Brian McClair leads the way with 19 goals, including the decisive strike when United won the competition for the first time in 1992 by beating Nottingham Forest.

Rashford has scored 16 times and is currently level with Mark Hughes in second place on the club’s scoring chart. He could move clear of Hughes if he features against Brighton & Hove Albion in Wednesday night’s, September 16, 2026 third-round meeting.

The match at Old Trafford is scheduled to begin at 20:00 BST, with Rashford potentially having another opportunity to add to his impressive League Cup record.
