Brace for a different duel: Nairobi United assistant coach warns AFC Leopards

Nairobi United assistant coach Boniface Omondi has sounded a pre-match warning cry ahead of the club’s rescheduled encounter against AFC Leopards.
The two face off this Wednesday, March 18, 2026, in a rescheduled tie at the Nyayo National Stadium.
Speaking ahead of the tie, Omondi said they will be taking the battle to the title-chasing rivals, stressing that it will be a whole different encounter from the first-leg meeting that ended with Ingwe running out 2-0 victors in January 2026.
Fatigue
“During the first leg against the Leopards, we were fatigued. We came from an away clash against Shabana before facing them two days later this time round. The time we are well prepared for facing them,” he stated.
Naibois looks to extend its fine run after seemingly seeing the clouds lift off its season. After putting aside a dismal CAF CC run, Godfrey Oduor’s side has stability in their league assignment with an unbeaten run in their last four games, a spell that has seen the Harambee Star ace Benson Omall unleash his best form yet.
Naibois on the mend
Omalla, who signed with the club after ending his stint in Cambodia, has rediscovered his scoring touch at Nairobi United, netting five goals in five matches, and could effectively prove pivotal in ending Leopards’ title charge for the season.

Meanwhile, Leopards head into the tie eager to return to winning ways and recalibrate their title chase that appears to be fading after a spate of inconsistent outcomes that have not only derailed their pursuit of leaders, Gor Mahia, but also put the former international under huge scrutiny.
Fred Ambani’s team suffered a huge blow with a defeat against KCB on Thursday, February 26, 2026, sparking concerns over their title credentials.
Injury woes
Despite shrugging off the loss in emphatic fashion with the humiliation of Shabana in their next tie, Leopards were back on the losing streak in a surprise 4-1 defeat to Mathare on Saturday, March 14, 2026.
The pre-match team news has presented little reprieve for the tactician and the club on the injury front. Skipper Kayci Odhiambo will sit out of action for the next two weeks, as confirmed by the club.
The clash kicks off at 3:00 pm
