AFC Leopards locks in FKF PL runners-up spot despite defeat to Bidco United

AFC Leopards have locked down a second-place finish in the FKF Premier League season despite suffering a late defeat against Bidco United on Sunday, May 31, 2026.

The loss comes as a second consecutive defeat for Ingwe, who just last Sunday, May 24, 2026, saw their title push come to an anticlimactic end at the hands of APS Bomet. That identical scoreline left them unable to catch Gor Mahia after a fierce title race for league honours.

Ingwe enjoyed a massive turnaround this season to become the sole challengers to Gor Mahia before their late-season resolve was curtailed.

FKF PL’s second best

Fred Ambani’s side has, however, managed to secure their spot as the second-best team of the season behind their archrivals, Gor Mahia, as the campaign concludes. The former KPL giants, who last lifted the league title in 1998, finished nine points ahead of third-placed and former champions Kenya Police.

The Bidco clash was decided late as Japheth Akhulia’s charges turned the game on its head in a dramatic final eight minutes to deliver the final blow to Leopards. Vincent Otieno had given the team a crucial lead after the break, but it proved not enough for a winning end to the 2026 campaign.

Meanwhile, Dennis Kikwae proved to be a bright spot in the tie. The youngster made a fine start to his Ingwe league career, notching an assist for Otieno’s strike. The substitute had just come on for the injured Ronald Sichenje and needed no time to settle in.

Fred Ambani’s team recently conceded defeat in the thrilling title race but shied away from congratulating new champions Gor Mahia FC.

In an emotional statement on Monday, May 25, 2026, AFC Leopards conceded the title chances for the season. The heartfelt title concession was highlighted with a standing tribute to its fans for the support throughout the journey.

Painful end

“Our second-to-last match of the league painfully ended in defeat in the hands of the hosts, APS Bomet.

“We take this opportunity to appreciate all the fans who took their time and resources to travel to Kericho; you filled the stadium and supported the team throughout the entire match,” a concession statement after the loss from the club read.
