Ambani apologises to AFC Leopards fans, reflects on lessons picked from fierce title fight

AFC Leopards coach Fred Ambani has tendered his sincere apologies to the Ingwe family as he reflected on what could have been as curtains close on the 2025/26 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League season.

The former Kenya international has been the man at the centre of Ingwe’s promising season that nonetheless ended in a runner-up position in the league, five points behind eventual winner and new champions Gor Mahia.

In his reflection after signing a surprise 2-1 defeat to Bidco United, Ambani said he bowed out with plenty of lessons to learn from and implement as he looked to go again with better tidings in view.

“We wanted to gauge them (young players) and see how we are going into the new year. It would not be ideal not to know where we are heading in the next season. I can say we are in a good place with the knowledge gained, and I am hopeful of starting well,” he stated.

On the lessons gained in the season that saw Ingwe massively improve but ultimately not enough to end their long drought for a domestic league crown, Ambani revealed that he already knows the facets of the team that need to be redressed.

“Indeed, there is plenty to learn as we head back to the drawing board. We will need to look at our offence, which has been our main problem in the season. Our team has overall been good with the exception of that department,” he explained.

Plea to fans

With the season done and dusted, Ambani signed off with a passionate plea to the club’s faithful.

“First and foremost, I want to apologise to the fans for the results today. My message to them is to go have a rest; when we come back next year, bring the same energy as we look to push and carry the league title,” he declared.
