Moja Expressway Company has issued an official traffic advisory informing road users of scheduled maintenance along the elevated overpass deck in Westlands.

The routine engineering work began on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 8:00 pm and runs through to Monday, September 21, 2026, at 12:00 pm. The planned maintenance and construction activities aim to maintain the structural quality and safety standards of the elevated corridor.

Traffic alternatives for CBD-bound drivers

During the repair period, motorists traveling from the James Gichuru Junction direction toward the central business district will encounter temporary traffic diversions. Moja Expressway Company confirmed that vehicles moving toward town cannot use the elevated overpass deck to enter the toll highway during the stated construction hours.

In a traffic update published on X, the operator outlined the specific detour instructions for affected motorists. The company announced, “CBD bound motorists from James Gichuru Junction direction are advised to use Waiyaki Way”.

Furthermore, drivers accessing the expressway at the Westlands section are informed that they “should not use the elevated overpass deck, but instead utilize the lower A8 road (Waiyaki Way)”.

Despite these temporary deck diversions, the operator clarified that the “Nairobi Westlands Entrance remains fully operational” throughout the maintenance window. Drivers joining the expressway from the Westlands side can continue using the facility, provided they follow the designated lower-level connection.

Work Timelines and Commuter Safety Guidelines

Outbound motorists exiting the express route toward the overpass will experience shorter restrictions. According to the notice, “outbound traffic exiting the Nairobi Expressway toward the overpass will resume normal operations from Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 5:00 PM”.

Maintenance works on the remaining elevated overpass deck will continue until Monday at noon.

To maintain smooth movement and ensure safe passage near active work sites, “drivers are urged to exercise caution and follow the instructions of traffic marshals stationed along the route”.

The company offered an apology for potential delays, stating, “We apologize for any inconvenience caused and thank you for choosing the Nairobi Expressway”. Motorists seeking inquiries or assistance can contact the service hotline on 0111039777.
