NTSA issues 6-month deadline for uncollected vehicle logbooks

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has given vehicle owners with uncollected logbooks a six-month deadline to pick up the documents before they are disposed of.
In a notice dated Thursday, June 11, 2026, the Authority said it would no longer keep printed logbooks that remain uncollected at its offices for more than six months.
“NTSA WILL NOT store currently printed and yet to be collected logbooks for more than a period of six (6) months,” the Authority said.
NTSA warned that owners who fail to collect their documents within the stipulated period risk losing them as the Authority moves to clear the backlog of logbooks sitting at its offices. The notice is likely to push vehicle owners who have delayed collection to check whether their documents are ready rather than leaving the matter for another day.
“After the 6 months, all uncollected logbooks will be disposed of in accordance with the Authority’s policy,” NTSA stated.
The Authority urged all motor vehicle owners who still have their logbooks at NTSA offices to collect them as soon as possible to avoid inconveniences. This is particularly important for motorists who may need the document when applying for services that require proof of vehicle ownership.
“Clients WILL NOT be able to access services that require a copy of logbook without attaching the current/original logbook in their application,” NTSA said.
The warning means motorists should not assume that leaving an old or uncollected logbook at an NTSA office will have no effect on future transactions. A current logbook may be required when accessing different services, making the document an important part of a vehicle owner’s paperwork.
NTSA also clarified that collecting the logbook does not attract any fee. Vehicle owners only need to carry the previous logbook together with an identification document for verification at the collection centre or NTSA office.
“Collection of logbooks is free. Carry the previous logbook and present your identification document at the collection centre/NTSA office for verification purposes,” the Authority said.
The Authority said its offices are open from Monday to Friday between 8 am and 5 pm, giving motorists a window during the working week to collect their documents and seek assistance where necessary.
“All NTSA offices are open from Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm to provide clients with all the necessary support,” the statement said.
The Authority encouraged motorists not to wait until the deadline approaches before checking on their logbooks, especially since failure to collect the document could complicate future applications that require it.
