Nicco Movers suspends operations over June passenger incident

Nicco Movers Limited has temporarily suspended its vehicle operations as it continues to engage with relevant authorities over an incident involving a passenger who fell from one of its vehicles in June.
In a public notice dated Tuesday, September 1, 2026, the company said the suspension follows the incident that occurred on June 5, 2026, involving a passenger who had boarded one of its vehicles and subsequently fell.
“NICCO MOVERS LIMITED would like to inform our valued customers and the general public that our vehicle operations are temporarily suspended as we continue to engage and cooperate with the relevant authorities regarding the incident that occurred on June 5, 2026,” the company said.
The company apologised to passengers and business partners for the disruption caused by the suspension.
“We understand that this may inconvenience our passengers and business partners, and we sincerely apologise for the disruption,” Nicco Movers said.
Company promises update
Nicco Movers said it remains committed to cooperating with the relevant authorities and respecting due process.
The company did not give a specific date for the resumption of its services, saying it would communicate through its official channels once there is a confirmed update.
“We will keep the public informed through our official communication channels once there is a confirmed update regarding the resumption of our services,” the company said.
What happened in June?
The latest announcement comes nearly three months after the June 5 incident involving 19-year-old Eugene Mutuku, a Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) student.
Mutuku died following an incident involving a Nicco Movers 1 Sacco vehicle along Thika Road.
According to his family, he had paid his fare and was waiting for his change when a confrontation with a conductor occurred, after which he fell from the moving matatu, registration number KDV 713J.
Mutuku was rushed to hospital but later died at Kenyatta National Hospital from severe injuries.

“The probable cause of death is severe bleeding due to force from a blunt object, and we suspect it was the tyre that ran over him,” Boniface Musyoka stated.
NTSA revokes Nicco licence
Following the incident, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) revoked the Public Transport Operator licence of Nicco Movers 1 Sacco with immediate effect.
The authority said an assessment had identified operational and safety weaknesses, including a lack of effective control over the fleet and inadequate safety measures. NTSA also said vehicles operating under the Sacco were unsafe and posed a danger to passengers and other road users.
The latest suspension by Nicco Movers comes as the company continues its engagement with authorities over the June incident.
