Kenya Met: Rain, thunderstorms expected across some counties on Christmas Day

The Kenya Meteorological Department has announced that various counties will experience showers and thunderstorms on Christmas Day.

In a weather forecast report issued on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, the Met Department announced that some counties will experience sunny intervals in the morning.

The Met Department has announced that sunny intervals are expected with rains over a few places across the country, with strong southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5 m/s) expected over Turkana and Marsabit counties.

According to Met, the counties include Kakamega, Vihiga, Busia, Bungoma, Kisumu, Kisii, Naymira, Migori, Siaya, Homa Bay, Kericho, Nandi, Bomet, Nakuru, and Narok.

Other counties expected to receive showers on Christmas Day include Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, and Trans Nzoia County.

“Showers and thunderstorms are expected over a few places tonight. Sunny intervals are expected in the morning. Showers and thunderstorms are expected over a few places in the afternoon,” read the forecast report in part.

On the other hand, the Met department has announced that Nyeri, Murang’a, Embu, Meru, Kiambu, Tharaka Nithi, Laikipia, Nyandarua, and Nairobi will experience showers and thunderstorms expected over a few places tonight. Cloudy conditions are expected in the morning with a chance of rain over a few places, breaking into sunny intervals.

Samburu, Coastal regions

Partly cloudy conditions are expected tonight. Sunny intervals are expected to prevail the entire day tomorrow. Strong southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5 m/s) are expected over Turkana County and Samburu.

Also, Marsabit, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, and Isiolo will experience partly cloudy conditions expected tonight. Sunny intervals are expected to prevail the entire day tomorrow. Strong southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5 m/s) are expected over Marsabit County.

In addition, Machakos, Makueni, Kitui, Taita Taveta, and Kajiado Counties will experience showers and thunderstorms tonight. Mainly sunny intervals will be expected in the morning with a chance of rain over a few places.

Similarly, Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Tana River will experience some showers over a few places tonight.

On the other hand, the four coastal counties will have mainly sunny intervals expected the entire Christmas day; however, there is a chance of showers over a few places in the morning and in the afternoon, respectively, over the South Coast.
