KeNHA announces temporary closure on section of Waiyaki Way

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the temporary partial closure of a section of Waiyaki Way (A8 Road) between GTC and Kempinski on the Mombasa-bound lanes.
The closure will begin on Friday, July 31, 2026, and continue until Monday, August 31, 2026. KeNHA said the closure is necessary to allow highway maintenance works on the affected road section.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) notifies the public that a section of Waiyaki Way (A8 Road) between GTC and Kempinski on the Mombasa-bound lanes will be temporarily partially closed from Friday, July 31, 2026 to Monday, August 31, 2026,” KeNHA said.
The authority explained that only part of the road will be closed during the maintenance period. It said the works are aimed at carrying out highway maintenance on the affected section. KeNHA also asked road users to plan their journeys during the period.
“This closure is to allow for highway maintenance works on the road section,” KeNHA said.
Traffic changes during maintenance
KeNHA advised motorists using Waiyaki Way to make use of the sections of the road that will remain open. The authority also encouraged drivers to consider alternative routes to help reduce traffic delays. It said these measures are expected to help keep traffic moving during the maintenance period.
“All Motorists intending to use Waiyaki Way during this period will utilise the unclosed sections of this road as well as consider using alternative routes to ensure minimal traffic disruption,” KeNHA said.
The authority further urged motorists to follow all traffic directions that will be put in place while the works are ongoing. It explained that drivers should cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals who will be stationed at the site. KeNHA said these measures are intended to help manage the flow of traffic safely.
“Motorists are further advised to follow the proposed traffic management plan as well as cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site,” KeNHA said.
KeNHA also assured road users that the temporary traffic changes will only remain in place while the maintenance works are underway. The authority said normal traffic operations along the affected section of Waiyaki Way will resume once the road works have been completed.
“Normal traffic operations on the road will be restored upon completion of the works,” KeNHA said.
